Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular disease isthe major cause of morbidity and mortalityamong patients with advanced chronickidney disease (CKD), and structuralcardiac abnormalities, particularly leftventricular hypertrophy (LVH), are highlyprevalent in patients receivinghaemodialysis. Chronic volume overload, hypertension, anaemia, mineral-boneabnormalities and uraemiccardiomyopathy contribute to increasedleft ventricular mass (LVM).
