Abstract

Background: SGLT2 are exclusively expressed in kidneys, especially in early proximal tubule and promotes reabsorption of 80-90% of glucose filtered by glomerulus. Uric acid is a weak acid generated from the metabolism of purine and that high circulating uric acid levels may increase risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndromes. SGLT2 inhibitors has demonstrated an effect in reducing serum urate levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
