Abstract

Background: Vitamin A deficiency in pregnant women is a significant nutritional issue in developingcountries, and could be a factor in maternal anemia and poor birth outcomes. Vitamin A deficiency isrequired for erythropoiesis, immune function and fetal growth. But little local information is available on the association of maternal vitamin A status with maternal and neonatal hemoglobin concentrations.
