Abstract

Background: Adjuvants added to local anaesthetics in supraclavicular brachial plexus block hastenthe onset and prolong the duration of sensory–motor blockade and post-operative analgesia.Dexmedetomidine, a selective α₂-adrenoceptor agonist, and fentanyl, a lipophilic μ-opioid receptoragonist, are both used perineurally, but head-to-head data under real-time ultrasound guidance remain limited.
