Background: Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis is an important measure for preventing surgicalsite infections. Its effectiveness depends on appropriate indication, antimicrobial selection, dose,route, timing, intraoperative redosing, and duration. Despite the availability of institutional guidelines, inappropriate prophylactic antibiotic use remains common and contributes to adversedrug effects, increased treatment costs, and antimicrobial resistance.
