Abstract

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading microvascular complication of diabetesmellitus and a major cause of preventable blindness. Chronic hyperglycaemia drives itsprogression, but which routinely available glycaemic index best reflects DR severity is uncertain.

Objectives: To examine the association of fasting blood glucose (FBG), postprandial bloodglucose (PPBG), HbA1c and diabetes duration with the severity of DR.
