Abstract

Background: Large, complicated inguinoscrotal inguinal hernias present a distinct reconstructivechallenge because of the extensive dissection of the distal sac and scrotal component required duringopen Lichtenstein mesh repair. This dissection creates substantial dead space, and reported rates ofpostoperativescrotalseroma or haematoma after Lichtenstein hernioplasty forcomplete/inguinoscrotal hernias range from 5% to over 20%, with surgical site infection (SSI)frequently arising secondarily in these collections.
