Abstract

Background: The spread of intrathecallocal anaesthetic varies considerablybetween individuals despite administrationof astandardized dose. Conventionalpatient characteristics such as age, height, weight and body mass index do not completely explain this variability.Vertebral column length may represent amore direct anatomical determinant of the distance available for longitudinaldistribution of intrathecal local anaesthetic
