Abstract

Background: Mastectomy remains necessary for asubstantial proportion of women with breastcarcinoma. Although oncologically appropriate,removal of the breast may adversely affect bodyimage, psychological well-being and quality oflife. Immediate breast reconstruction aims torestore breast contour at the same operative sittingand may reduce the psychosocial burdenassociated with mastectomy
