Abstract

Background: Scalpel and diathermy are widely used for surgical skin incisions. Diathermy provides simultaneous tissue division and coagulation, whereas scalpel incision combined with local lignocaine and adrenaline infiltration may provide haemostasis while avoiding thermal tissue injury. This study compared perioperative and scar-related outcomes of the two techniques in clean and clean-contaminated surgery.
