Abstract

Respiratory muscle  dysfunctionasis  increasinglycontributor to delayed liberation frommechanical ventilation among critically illpatients. However, thelongitudinal impact ofrespiratory muscle weakness on prolongedmechanical ventilation (PMV) and clinicaloutcomesremainscharacterized. This prospective cohort studyevaluated the prevalence of respiratorymuscle dysfunction and identified predictorsofprolonged mechanical ventilation incritically illadults admitted to intensive careunits (ICUs).
