Comparison of Conventional and Accelerated Orthodontics Techniques in Reducing Treatment Time

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of conventional and accelerated orthodontic technique in reducing overall treatment time and to assess the treatment outcome and patient satisfaction.
Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study.
Place and Duration of Study: Department of Orthodontics, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry, Multan from November 2025 to April 2026.
Methods: 120 patients were enrolled who needed fixed orthodontics treatment. Sample size was determined by the WHO formula for sample size determination at a 95% level of confidence, 80% study power and 5% level of significance. There were 60 patients in the conventional orthodontics group and 60 patients in the accelerated orthodontics group. Sixty patients were also assigned to one of the two groups, the conventional orthodontics group (n=60) and the accelerated orthodontics group (n=60). Treatment duration, alignment rate, pain perception and satisfaction were evaluated. Data was processed by SPSS version 26.0 with independent sample t-tests and Chi-square tests, p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.
Results: There was a statistically significant difference in treatment time and tooth alignment between accelerated orthodontics and conventional orthodontics (p<0.05). The group that had accelerated treatment had better satisfaction and similar pain scores compared with the other group.
Conclusion: The accelerated orthodontic techniques do not compromise the treatment outcome and are safe and effective options when compared to conventional orthodontic therapy, and they are among those that can significantly shorten the time for treatment.
