Abstract

Background: Esophageal varices are a commoncomplication of portal hypertension in patients with liver cirrhosis and are associated with potentiallylife-threatening variceal hemorrhage. Uppergastrointestinal endoscopy is still an importantmodality for variceal detection, but repeatedendoscopic screening may be resource intensive.
