Abstract

Background: Musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders are associated with complex pathophysiological changes and are frequently managed with pharmacological therapies and anesthesia-related interventions. These factors may influence disease severity, perioperative complications, pain control and functional outcomes.

Objective: To assess the impact of pathophysiological alterations, pharmacological therapy, anesthesia-related factors on clinical characteristics and functional outcomes among patients with musculoskeletal as well as orthopedic disorders.

Methodology: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted among patients diagnosed with musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders. Data regarding demographic characteristics, underlying pathophysiological conditions, pharmacological treatment patterns, anesthesia-related factors and clinical outcomes were collected using a structured questionnaire and medical records. Descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential analyses were performed to determine associations between variables, with statistical significance set at p<0.05.

Results: Among the study participants, inflammatory and degenerative pathophysiological changes were common which were significantly associated with pain, severity and functional limitations. Analgesics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids and other therapeutic agents were frequently prescribed. Anesthesia-related factors, including type of anesthesia and perioperative analgesic use demonstrated significant associations with postoperative pain control and recovery outcomes. Patients receiving optimized pharmacological and anesthetic management exhibited better functional status and fewer complications.

Conclusion: Pathophysiological alterations, pharmacological therapy and anesthesia-related factors have a significant impact on clinical presentation and functional outcomes in musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders. Comprehensive multidisciplinary management may contribute to improved recovery and reduced morbidity in affected patients.
